The increased use of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in industry has exposed the need for advanced energy monitoring solutions as ordinary meters do not provide accurate measurements of energy consumption, surplus feed-back to the grid and the overall energy balance. To address the challenges, the study presents a smart net energy meter with IoT technology object to improve net metering for industrial solar PV. It is integrated into the system to allow live monitoring hence accurate and continuous monitoring of energy consumption and production both from Grid and Solar systems. The monthly reports are automatically generated, giving a general overview of the net energy exchange; enhancing transparency and allowing the users to assess energy performance. Further, the system provides safety by automatically sending an alert on mobile devices or via SMS in the case of gas leaks or smoke or any attempt of system tampering. The system has demonstrated using complete software simulations and harsh hardware testing to support industrial users in the management of energy, enhancing operations, and promoting sustainable energy.
